A draft on SSE pamphlet

MYH Miguel Yasuyuki Hirota Public Seen by 37

One of the topics we agreed on is the need to make a pamphlet on SSE. I suppose the following contents are needed, but your opinions are welcome:

- SSE's goals

- Initiatives which belong to SSE

- What we are (WSFTE)

- What you can do to promote SSE

Please add what is important to add. My idea is to make the pamphlet as short as possible so translation is easier...

One idea I've come up with is that we can make a simple promotion video, just using the same text from the pamphlet, and upload it at Youtube (sometimes Youtube can translate it into as many as 60 languages, although the translation quality cannot be ensured). It should be very helpful to have our own promotion video available in many languages...

Here is the first draft. You're free to improve it.

Title: Invitation to the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE)

- SSE's goals

Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) is a range of economic activities which pursue not only economic profit but also the welfare for workers, internal democratic management, social justice, empowerment of the weak and reduction on ecological footprint, among others.  RIPESS Charter, available in English, French and Spanish, provides a good overview on its ideal.

  • Initiatives which belong to SSE

Entities belonging to SSE include, but not limited to, co-operatives (workers’, consumers’, farmers’ etc.), credit unions, non-profits, mutual benefit societies, foundations, microfinance, organic farming, local currencies, time banks, ethical finance, fair trade, community-supported agriculture, commons (including creative commons), incubators for co-operatives and recovered companies.

  • Why we work as a global network

SSE practices can be found all over the world, but they tend to be tiny and need to be interlinked to enhance them and help them grow more smoothly.  Our international network helps local initiatives learn from similar experiences in other countries and a lot of online resources help us communicate and learn beyond the language barrier.

  • What you can do

- If you aren’t a member of any SSE initiative: try joining it

- If you’re already a member of SSE initiatives: try to make your organisation join the national network (if available), or start contacting other SSE initiatives to set up the national network

- It’s also important to understand the width of SSE, trying to cooperate with potential other players.

  • Further information

See www.ripess.org and www.transformadora.org for further information.

How can we make ammendments to this Miguel, I can't quite see how to do it!

You can't edit my post, so what you can do is to copy, edit and paste it. Another possibility is to place this document at Google Document so anybody can edit...

Hi Miguel (and everyone),

I hope you're fine.

First of all, thank you for your great work!

Secondly, do we have a shared document on this? I was reading your suggestions and I really felt the need to share my comments on a more fruitfull and concrete way than the replies here (and also you wouldn't have to sistematize all comments later). What do you think?

Abraço,

MYH

Hi Sofia,

Thank you for your reply. It's quite weird that I forgot to add the draft which is available here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ugOWv-VEkw6sLTZEoxeexcvAJaIBWzB9kcCDm19yHAs/edit . Try editing, but beware that this is just "SSE in a nutshell", so beware that we need to make it as short as some 500 words (currently 461 words)...
