Since its popular introduction in the late 80s, The Internet has flourished primarily because of the freedom with which software developers share their code with each other, not only traditionally, but also as a matter of necessity, in order to preserve the open and collaborative culture that, alone, encouraged this growth to continue at an ever accelerating rate. Not long after its popularization, however, the corporate culture began to exploit the nature of the internet for profit by introducing competitive policies in the software development industry that valued proprietary ownership of copyrighted intellectual property instead of the "open market" approach, in which sharing software technology freely is valued more highly.

LMPK wants to let people know that we must return to the promised land of FOSS, Free and Open Source Software. And not only we are committed to preserving the open source culture, many for profit corporations have been compelled to agree that the industry benefits from sharing more than from competition. As a result, many for profit corporations develop open source versions of their own proprietary products, possibly with less features, sometimes without support, but one way or another, FOSS continues to demand its place in the business world for the foreseeable future.

LMPK aspires to promote the virtues and values of FOSS through 3 channels to satisfy the needs of 3 partner profiles.

1) Partners who want to utilize FOSS federation but cannot facilitate any level of technical engagement, or are otherwise unable even to host their own instance.

2) Willing to host their own instance if educated, mentored, and supported.

3) Ready and willing to or already host their own instance but could benefit from ongoing technical support and maintenance.

1. Hosting-as-a-service for Platform Consumers

   1. LMPK will act as an umbrella organization for "platform promoters", essentially franchisees who rebrand LMPK's white labeled Infrastructure-as-Code ecosystem, primarily based on HashiCorp technologies. Platform promoters host instances for smaller organizations, less than ~1000 total members, lacking the resources or the will to self-host.

   2. The first of these platform promoters is https://kombinowac.pl, for the Polish language market. This website will provide a one-click solution to gather minimal details about a desired instance:

      1. The supported apps - Mastadon, PeerTube, Wordpress, Etherpad, Jitsi, Funkwhale, WriteFreely, etc...

      2. A unique subdomain name

      3. Admin credentials

      and then deploy that instance automatically as a subdomain of Kombinowac...

   3. Visitors will be able to select the application server they want to host, fill out a short wizard style form and, within minutes, log in to their own highly available instance. Post installation, the wizard will email the admin with an invitation link to be forwarded to others for rapid recruitment and onboarding

   4. LMPK hopes to duplicate the efforts of the Kombinowac franchisee model to other language environments, using different branding, possibly distinct promotional and marketing campaigns.

2. Remote-host management for Platform Promoters

   1. LMPK will also curate and cultivate examples of mid-sized organizations, typically less than 100,000 total members, wherein the goal of the project is to start with deploying and hosting a more privately implemented platform for a predefined and preexisting group. These groups are typically not interested in open enrollment and would not welcome the general public as it would dilute the contextual substance of the group's character and activities.

   2. This approach intends to eventually emancipate the deployed platform when its community matures enough to take over both economic and operational responsibility from LMPK.

   3. The first of these mid-sized deployments is https://kcl.academy, a Mastodon instance for King's College of London and artificially named, "The Academy". Recruitment will be focused on - but not limited to - the preexisting population of current students. Alumni and anyone related to past or present students are also encouraged to join. It is our hope that The Academy will function as a social membrane for on-campus social life to make contact with its off-campus environment.

3. Self-hosting technical support Independent Platforms Providers

   1. LMPK wants to encourage and support larger installations of over 1 million members, as well. The costs of doing so are prohibitive without significant member participation. LMPK feels comfortable only with the donation model of economic support. Our goals include mentoring independent hosting projects to promote perpetually free access to federated FOSS technologies. Such a large installation requires an extensively orchestrated design, highly available infrastructure, disaster recovery, monitoring, as well as ongoing upgrades and modifications of a more complex and technically demanding nature.

   2. One example of such a deployment is https://gujarati.social, a Mastodon implementation served on container clusters deployed and maintained with TerraForm and managed through Nomad and other HashiCorp technologies.

      1. Bundled with Mastodon is PeerTube at https://watch.gujarati.social. We plan to also deploy WriteFreely for long form blogging and LearnAwesome as an educational platform, within the bundle. Other applications are welcome.

      2. Approximately 60 million people speak Gujarati in north-western India. These 60 million are culturally connected to another 2 million Gujarati speakers on the east coast of America. We are searching for other such populations in the Gujarati Diaspora as we believe that these are groups that could significantly help promote our initiative.
