Bank of the Commons

0.822 Public Seen by 9

Bank of the Commons is a cooperative banking service whose aim is to support alternative economy projects and social movements on both a global and a local level.

Our goal is to move towards a new societal structure by adopting FairCoin, a cryptocurrency using innovative and green blockchain technology, which can serve as a global social currency upon which to develop and implement decentralized financial structures for the Commons.

Bank of the Commons combines open assembly methodology such as has been used in movements such as 15M, Occupy, Integral Cooperatives and, more recently, eXtinction Rebellion, with professionals working in areas such as economics, accounting, programming, management, legal issues or communication.

I like the concept, not sure FairCoin is the apropiate exchange currency (I have done some research around it, can share the interviews I have done).

There is another crypto who is gaining relevance in Portugal. SEEDS https://www.joinseeds.com/ would you like to give some feedback around it?

It looks very nice. Would you be up to make a comparative table between the two (or a simpler "pros/cons")?

FairCoin is now split of FairCoop cause of fluctuation of value in the market. It is no longer working as it was before.

In the other hand there is an embassador of SEEDS with whom I collaborated to create a national association, to start including crypto and blockchain finetech into Portugal.

We could go deeper in the understanding of what we need.

What we need a cryptocurrency for?

Are we un the stage of already adopting a cryptocurrency?

What are other forms of currency that can support US to achieve our goals?

What we need a cryptocurrency for?

The way it is expressed in the quoted presentation of Bank of the Commons speaks to me as is:

Our goal is to move towards a new societal structure by adopting FairCoin, a cryptocurrency using innovative and green blockchain technology, which can serve as a global social currency upon which to develop and implement decentralized financial structures for the Commons.

FairCoin being replaced by SEEDS doesn't pose me any problem (relatively to my current understanding).

Are we in the stage of already adopting a cryptocurrency?

Not yet (from my perspective, obviously).

What are other forms of currency that can support US to achieve our goals?

Time and, possibly, a local fiat money (for which we haven't reach the corresponding stage neither).

Great, reflections. I am ready toove forward with the time bank. Do we need to agree upon something to go on?

I would like to use this platform: https://www.timeoverflow.org/

Any feedback?

Also I am open to start talking about the crypto and the possibilities might bring. As well as the possibilities of blockchain and how se could start using it for our purposes

I don't think so. Setting it up and organizing an event (at Espaço Nativa i'd say) to present it might be fine enough. Then, let's see if/how (much) people would make use of it.

Not really given that the only things i can find (directly, from this website) are some bytes of text and those two screenshots:

Except if you think that it requires a face to face meeting, here is a place to "talk" about it.
